**Birth year is incorrect on his marker. He was younger than his brother Zachariah Cowart, who was born in 1843.

The 1860, 1870, and 1880 federal censuses all show him being born in 1845. The 1900 census gives his birth month and year as February 1845. The 1910 and 1920 censuses show him being born in 1846.
