Powers Inman, better known as "Pete" by his friends, was born January 2, 1878 on a farm in Marion County, Iowa.
He was born the third child of Stamped and Rachel Inman. At the age of 6 years, with his family, he moved to western Iowa where he grew to manhood. At Oakland, Iowa, on December 5, 1900, he and Nora Mae Clayton were united in marriage. The moved to central Iowa in 1903, farming near Redfield 5 years and north of Earlham for 32 years.
After receiving a neck injury in 1939 he became unable to farm longer and moved into town where he built and operated a service station. This was an enjoyable and successful business to him, as he enjoyed people both in business and friendship.
Due to loss of sight in 1949 he was forced to retire from business, but remained in relatively good health until January 1964, since which time there was a marked but gradual decline in health until his death Friday evening, September 18, 1964.
During his active life he spent much time in church and community service.
He is survived by his wife Nora, two sons Floyd of Phoenix, Arizona, and Frank of Earlham; two daughters, Blanche (Mrs. Marvyn Renshaw) of Clear Lake, and Doris (Mrs. Jess Nelson) of Earlham; 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two brothers, Lush of Rockford, Iowa, and Russell of Charles City.
Preceding him in death were one son, Glen, his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Pete was a member of the Earlham Friends church where final rites were conducted by Rev. Willard L. Reynolds on Monday, September 21, at 1:30. Interment was made at the Earlham cemetery. Casket bearers were Wayne Thomas, Russell Hester, Fred Fry, Leo Conrad, Roland Conrad and Beryl Kenworthy with George Davis, Stanley Williamson and Fred Petersen as honorary bears. Flowers were in charge of the church floral committee.
