Based on my research of her marriage to Edward Bohna and her life history, I think her maiden name was Pero. Minnie Shepherd, age 21, b. NY, was living with Oliver and Mahala Pero (Pere in HQ index) in Baltimore Tsp., Henry Co., IA, in 1880. She's listed as a step daughter, but I think her relationship to the head of household was a census taker's error. In her divorce case with Edward Bohna, her sister, Clara Pero, is mentioned. Clara is also listed in the 1880 census with Oliver Pero.
