Abraham Charles Van Orman, 87, a longtime resident of Montpelier, died Sunday in a Jerome hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Van Orman was born on April 3, 1882 in Bennington, the son of Abraham John and Margaret Hunter Van Orman. He married Tennie Ipsen on October 1, 1903, in the Logan LDS Temple. A high priest in the Montpelier Second ward, he had served on the Genealogical and Welfare committees and many years as a Ward Teacher.
Mr. Van Orman was a former employee of the Union Pacific railroad and also engaged in farming and livestock raising. Since the death of his wife in January of this year he had made his home with his sons, John and Lyle Van Orman in Jerome.
He is survived by the following children: Arthur Van Orman of Montpelier; John Van Orman and Lyle Van Orman, both of Jerome; Mrs. Clifford (Verda) Smith of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Merrill (Pearl) Gunnell of Logan; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lorenzo (Mae) Speirs of Bennington, and Mrs. Joseph (Nettie) Nieswinder of Salt Lake City. Two children and his wife preceded him in death.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the Montpelier Second Ward chapel with Bishop W. D. Arnell officiating. Family prayer was by Allen Ipsen and the prelude and postlude by Margaret Van Orman.

Powell offered the invocation; medley of LDS Hymns by quartet, Dr. Paul Daines, Ray Larsen, Philip Hulme and James Olsen; obituary and remarks, Bishop Arnell; organ solo, Margaret Van Orman; vocal solo, “The Temple by the River,” Max Haddock; speaker, Bishop Boyd Smart; quartet, “The Lord Is My Shepherd;”

John Van Orman dedicated the grave in the Montpelier cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Roger Smith, Frank Gunnell, Charles Andrus, Don Stephens, Lowell Van Orman and Ralph Meyer. Matthews Mortuary was in charge.
