Billy Braddock volunteered to serve in the Civil War for his stepfather, John McAninch. He was 16 at the time. He became a drummer boy in the 65th Ohio infantry. Where he served is unknown. He died on 19 Feb, 1862 or 17 March, 1862 of measles in Stanford, Lincoln, Kentucky. He had been taken in and nursed by a family.

He was buried at the Town Cemetery, Stanford, Lincoln, KY. He was later moved to Camp Nelson National Cemetery at 6980 Danville Road, Nicholasville, KY 40356 (Jessamine county). a marble headstone was erected by friends. Burial is in Sec. B, site 453 but also indicates a location of Sec. B #75.
