Emily Grames was born in Tarring, Sussex, England, the daughter of Charles William & Maria Lillywhite Grames. Various genealogical records show she married Peter J. Bell & William Campbell, however there seems to be confusion as to which was the first & second marriage. She was living with/working for the William Whightman family in Payson, Utah in 1880, at which time she was shown as divorced. The cemetery records list her as Emily Grames Bell, however, her death certificate lists her as Emily Grames Campbell, widowed (husband shown as "Unknown Campbell". Therefore, it would appear that Peter J. Bell was the first husband, and William Campbell the second. However, she is buried next to Peter John Bell, born 1870, which would probably be her son (he was born when she was 22 and died in 1889 at age 19). There are no other Bells or Campbells buried with Emily & Peter John and the William Campbell buried in Price Cemetery, was a resident of a Soldiers Home in CA, who died on the train and was just buried in Price Cemetery (he was the widower of a Sallie Porter). There is an 1870 Salt Lake City, UT census showing Peter Bell, age 46, Elizabeth age 36 & Emily age 22. This could possibly be Emily Grames as a plural wife to Peter, as she would be too old to be the daughter of Elizabeth, and Elizabeth would be too old to be a daughter of Peter. Some records show Peter John Bell (b. 1870) as being born in Salt Lake City. Therefore, this is a good possiblity for Emily's first marriage. On the 1900 Price, UT census, Emily is shown as Emily Grames, age 52, single, living with her parents and two middle aged brothers. I have been unable to locate the 1910 0r 1920 census' for her.
One can conclude from the documentation that Emily was indeed married to a Bell and a Campbell, and that she had a son, Peter John Bell. However, that is all that the documentation verifies with certainty.
Emily died from injuries received in an automobile accident six days prior to her death. She was 78 years, 6 months & 21 days of age.
