Born in Monson MA in 1816 and his parents moved ot Ohio a year later. He received his education in Ohio and lived there for many years. He studied law and was admitted to practice in 1840. In 1860 he was elected to the House of Representatives and was a prominent figure until he wrote a caustic article about how the Union Troops movements at the battle of Bull Run. President Lincoln appointed Mr Riddle counsul to Cuba shortly after he left congress. Upon his return to the United States he continued his practice of lawy in Washington DC. He was interested in literature and wrote several books of poetry and prose.
