From the Barber County Index (Medicine Lodge, Kansas), April 23, 1913:

A GOOD WOMAN GONE

Mrs. Elizabeth Doles died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ellen Strickland, five miles west of this city, on Wednesday, April 16, 1913, from an attach of heart trouble. She had been afflicted for several years but was critically ill only a short time.

The funeral was held at the Doles residence on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and the remains laid to rest in Highland Cemetery.

Elizabeth Hobson was born in Ross County, Ohio, near Chillicothe, February 20, 1846; died near Medicine Lodge, Kansas, April 16, 1913, aged 67 years, 1 month and 26 days.

At the age of 18 years she was united in marriage to Duncan Doles, and four years thereafter she and her husband removed to Prescott, Iowa, where they resided until the latter ‘70s when they came to Barber County and lived happily together until death entered the home about twenty-five years ago and claimed the husband, leaving Mrs. Doles with seven children, all of whom are now grown to manhood and womanhood, and survive their parents. The sons and daughters are Robert Doles, Monument, Colorado; Lucinda Elliott, Alva, Oklahoma; Chas Doles, Jane Hittle, Watson Doles and Ellen Strickland, Medicine Lodge, Kansas; and Lillian Kimball, Elk City, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Doles was baptized into the Christian church by Elder M. B. Ingle about ten years ago and lived a devoted Christian life. She was one of Barber County's noblest women, a most cordial neighbor, blessed with a kindly disposition and was esteemed by all who knew her. Her devotion to her children during the dark days when she was deprived of her life's companion was sublime and her countless womanly graces will live long in the memory of those who were privileged to know her.

The sons and daughters who mourn the departure of this devoted, kindly mother have the sympathy of their numerous friends in their sorrow.
