Marguerite Marie Young, age 100 of Monroe, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at Jefferson Place of Pella. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 15, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Monroe at 3:00 p.m. with burial following at Silent City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at the church from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Monroe General Fund or the First Baptist Church of Monroe Youth Fund. Marguerite Marie Kool was born February 13, 1909 to Arie and Theadora (Dieleman) Kool. She received her formal education at the Fairfield country school in Marion County and Pella High School. After high school, she worked at J.C. Penny in Pella and at the J.C. Penny store in Des Moines when it first opened. On July 12, 1933, Marguerite was married to Howard Charls Young. They lived in Monroe most of their married life. Marguerite and Howard were joint partners in a road construction and drainage business and later managed farms they acquired. Howard died in 1991. Marguerite was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monroe and a charter member of the Monroe Today's Club. She enjoyed cooking and baking.

Marguerite is survived by 4 children: Dwight (Dolores) Young of Pella, Iowa, and their children Carter Young, Ryan Young and Amy Savage; Hugh (Bonny) Young of Onalaska, Wisconsin, and his children Heather Riccardi, Chris Young, Brian Young and Joel Young; Myron Young of Plymouth, Michigan, and his children Lance Young and Chad Young; and Marvel (Bob) Dunaway of Urbandale, Iowa and her children Sarah Gillaspie-Lovan and Garth Gillaspie. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, an infant daughter, Linda Beth, 5 brothers – Lewis, Abram, Dan, William and Laurel Kool – and two sisters – Marie Canfield and Dorothy Vogelaar.
