Frederick Laurel Kool, the son of Arie and Dora Dieleman Kool, was born August 2, 1920, in Monroe, Iowa. He graduated from the Monroe High School with the class of 1937. Laurel served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

Laurel was united in marriage with Lauretta R. Palmer (Ketcham) on March 10, 1947 in Atchison, Kansas. He worked for the Maytag Company in Newton for 35 years. Laurel was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church and the American Legion Newton Post #111. He enjoyed antiquing and farming.

Laurel died on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at his home. He was 88 years old. Laurel was preceded in death by his four brothers: William, Abram, Dan, Lewis; his two sisters: Dorothy Kool Vogelaar and Marie Kool Canfield.

Those left to honor Laurel's memory include his wife of over 61 years, Lauretta of Newton; his sons, Martin (Mary) Kool of Tucson, Arizona and Michael Kool of Tucson; his granddaughters, Kristy Axtell and Chelsea Rose Kool Smart; his great granddaughters, Erika Axtell and Elise Axtell and his sister, Marguerite Young of Monroe, Iowa.
