STOLTJE - Daniel Burkley, died July 19th, 2009, at the age of 79. Dan was born on September 1, 1929, in Houston, TX the son of Alphonso Daniel Stoltje and Grace Elizabeth Monzingo Stoltje. He was married to Carlene Griscom on January 16, 1953. Dan and Carlene had two sons, David Brian Stoltje of Bedford, TX and Dr. Paul Alan Stoltje of Fort Worth. Dan is survived by: his son, David and wife René Stoltje, his son, Paul and his daughter by marriage, Susan Stoltje; as well as 4 grandchildren, Alyssa, Laura, Michael and Hannah Stoltje. Dan was an active member of churches wherever he lived, often serving the congregations as a teacher or deacon. He also served as a lay preacher when called upon. Dan studied public speaking with Dale Carnegie and later taught the Dale Carnegie course. He was a gifted speaker and shared his gift of story telling always sprinkled with humor. Dan graduated from University of Houston in 1953. He served on the Houston Police force for several years before entering the Mortgage Banking profession in 1954 with T. J. Bettes Co. Dan was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1955. While at Ft. Bliss in El Paso Dan became a skilled marksman with pistols and thereafter enjoyed a hobby of gun collecting and marksmanship. After military service Dan returned to the Mortgage Banking profession until his retirement in 1988 from Lomas and Nettleton Mortgage Company as Sr. Vice President. Dan faced his share of challenges in life, maintaining a sense of peace and happiness amidst his struggles with Parkinson's disease for 25 years. His faith in God, unconditional love for his family and friends, wisdom, integrity and generosity created a legacy of lives touched and enduring relationships. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. Memorial service will be at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, TX on Thursday, July 23rd, 2009, at 11:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy., Dallas, TX at 2 p.m. Visitation 7 p.m.-9 p.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home.
