Elmer R. Ward died Monday, Dec 17, 1984, in St. Joshph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

He was a retired president of J.W.Ward Transfer Co. in Murphysboro.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, served in Warld War II and was a member of American Legion Post 127 and the Veterans of foreign Wars Post 7290, both in Murphysboro. He also was a member of the Eagles Lodge 670 and Elks Lodge 572. He was a past president of the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce, a member of the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital executive committee responsible for construction of the hospital in 1959, and a former member of the Murphysboro Industrial Committee.

He was born Aug. 14, 1913, in Murphysboro, to J.W. and Dora Carter Ward. He married Vida Gold June 14, 1944 in Norfolk, VA.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Tom Fricke of Murphysboro; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Nadeen Gillooly, Chresta Lockard and Naomi Holliday, all of Murphysboro; and three brothers, Leslie Ward, Raymond Ward and Laverne "Soggy" Ward, all of Murphysboro.
