Russell Messick

Russell Messick, 125 N. Huston, died Friday evening in Roosevelt General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 87 years old. Messick was born in October of 1890 in Mountain Home, Ark. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Lutheran Church. He moved to Portales from northern New Mexico in 1962.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia in 1973. Messick is survived by two sons, Russell of Wasco, Calif., and O.D. of Bakersfield, Calif.; a stepson, John Gregg of Albuquerque; two daughters, Mrs. Pearlene Schell of Portales and Mrs. Lora Mae Huff of Security, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Marie Gaddy of Albuquerque; two brothers, Jess of Springer and Eual of Maxwell; three sisters, Mrs. Faye Cooke of Albuquerque, Mrs. Nettie Langford of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Lora Hotchkiss of Montana; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Sevices will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Wheeler Starlight Chapel. The Rev Hardin Atkins will officiate. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery.
