Veronica A. Orin, 86, of Ruidoso Downs, died Friday, July 17, 2009, in Alamogordo.

Mrs. Orin was born October 27, 1922 in Herndon, Kansas to Henry Paul and Elizabeth Barbara (Versh) Niemeth. She grew up in Herndon and graduated from high school there. Following her graduation she moved to Denver, Colorado where she was a chef for many years. In 1977 she moved from Winter Park, Colorado to Ruidoso Downs where she was a teller at the racetrack for 27 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Lou Gray and Barbara Clair of Tularosa, and Judy Miller of Ruidoso Downs; 8 grandchildren, Charles Gray of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Brenda Markulik of Tularosa, Kenneth Gray and his wife Brenda of Alamogordo, Beck Gray of Odessa, Texas, Brian Trapple and his wife Tanya of Alamogordo, Shane Watts of Las Cruces, Wayne Watts of Ruidoso Downs, and Jayla McDermott and her husband Ryan of Trophy Club, Texas; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and a brother Francis J. Niemeth of Las Cruces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles A. "Jack" Orin, in 1989; 6 brothers; two sisters; a grandson Michael Gray; a son-in-law Edwin Miller.

The Rosary will be recited Monday, July 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Herrmann Funeral Home Chapel in McCook, Nebraska.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour as celebrant.

Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
