Susan was born in Cornwall, England. In St. Breward, according to the 1871 census. She married James Dawe. They had one child in Cornwall, but within a few years almost the entire Dawe clan migrated to north Yorkshire. There the couple had three more children. About twelve years later, John took his family to Lancashire where they settled in Burnley. John's sister Janem, her husband John Harris, and their children also migrated. The parents close to one another until their deaths. Susan's oldest son had died in 1895 and was buried in Burnley Cemetery where Susan now rests. When her husband died, he was buried there as well.
