Daniel served in the Union Army during the Civil War and was wounded.
He married Susan Orth and moved to Colorado in 1872 where Daniel became a farmer and rancher in Douglas County.
He and Susan had five children: William Sherman, John Franklin, Daniel Charles, Mary Elizabeth and Clarence. Susan died in childbirth in 1879 and Daniel and the children moved to Elbert County Colorado. Approximately two months later the child also died.
Daniel eventually re-married and died in Gooding, Idaho on November 24, 1912. He is buried in the Elbert Cemetery, Elbert County, Colorado. Susan died on July 8, 1879 and is buried in Russell Cemetery, El Paso County, Colorado.
