Dorothy L. Arnold, 100, formerly of McAlisterville, died at 12:54 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at The Bridges of Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born Oct. 17, 1908, in Cocolamus, Pa., she was a daughter of the late William I. and Mary Alice (Smith) Leister. Her husband, Harry A. Arnold, whom she married on May 30, 1929, preceded her in death on November 11, 1986.
Surviving are her children, Melvin E. Arnold and his wife Evelyn, of Richfield, Marjorie F. Amey and her husband Richard, James L. Arnold and his wife Carol, all of McAlisterville, and she leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a granddaughter, Kay Amey. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers, Maurice Leister, Lehman Leister, Jerry Leister, and two sisters, Esther Tennis and Maude Wagner Heckman.
She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Cocolamus, where she had served as pianist and as treasurer of the United Methodist Women.
Dorothy was a 1926 graduate of Fayette High School, McAlisterville.
Mrs. Arnold was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, reading, and tending to her flowers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 20, 2009, from St. John's United Methodist Church, Cocolamus, with the Rev. Ronald E. Landis officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
