Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday for Dr. Joseph H. Schantz, who was found dead Sunday at his home in New Tripoli.

Dr. Schantz had been a practicing physician in New Tripoli for the last six years. According to friends he had shown signs of illness on Saturday night, a recurrence of an illness which had manifested itself several weeks ago. Knowing that Dr. Schantz appeared ill Saturday and that his wife was away over the weekend, LeRoy Fatzinger, proprietor of a hotel at New Tripoli where Dr. Schantz took meals when his wife was away, sent two friends to the Schantz residence.

His body was found in the kitchen of the home by the pair, Arthur Snyder, a milkman, and "Dutch" Struher, a New Tripoli barber, both of whom were friends of the physician.

Dr. A. G. Kriebel, deputy coroner was called and said that death was due to a bullet wound through Dr. Schantz's head. A revolver was found nearby. Dr. A. M. Peters, Lehigh county coroner, said last night that no report had yet been filed with him, but indicated no inquest was contemplated.

The funeral will be at 308 E. Main St., Macungie. Interment will be in the Upper Milford Mennonite cemetery.

A native of Macungie. he attended the public schools there and later was graduated from Emmaus High school. He then attended Perkiomen Preparatory school. He was also graduated from Penn State college and from Temple University Medical school in 1930.
