William was the grandson of Robert Hutro Navarre, scout of the war of 1812. His parents were both Navarres (Robert R. Navarre, son of the Scout, and Maria Archangele, dau. of Robert T. Navarre). He ran a restaurant on the corner of Front and Main in the old Plumey block. He married at St. Louis Catholic Church in Toledo, Ohio, on 01 Feb 1887 Rosalie Emma Faneuff of Walbridge, OH by way of Detroit and Tilbury, Ont., her native town.
