John Reynolds emigrated to the USA in 1828, arriving in New York on 20 November on board 'Hudson'. With him were his wife Ann and three children; Ann aged 11, (Samuel) Mortimer aged 5 and Charlotte (Jane) aged 2. This means that despite other suggestions the 3 children were born in England. Information about John and what happened to his children can be found in 'North America, Family Histories, 1500-2000'. Also aboard 'Hudson' was Henry Elwell an uncle of the children who was also a Minister. He and his niece Charlotte moved to Yorkville, South Carolina in the 1850s, where he became the first Rector of The Church of the Good Shepherd and she initially became a Teacher.

As for John, he set up home in Harrisburg, where his wife Ann died, in 1830. He married his second wife Eleanor Evans in 1832, the same year as he moved to Philadelphia and became Rector (until 1839) of Old Swedes Church and was also responsible for the churches at Norristown and Perkiomen. It is not clear as to what he did between 1839 and his death in 1864 although it is known that he was living in Norristown in 1860.
