16 Jul 2009: William Hugh Campbell, 86, of Hummelstown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Frey Village Retirement Center, Middletown. Born October 5, 1922 in Shamokin, he was a son of the late Edward S. and Caroline M. (Shuey) Campbell. He was a graduate of Coal Township High School and a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. During the war he served as a corporal with Patton's 3rd Army, landing in Omaha Beach on June 12, 1944. As a serviceman he earned several medals and was honorably discharged on January 4, 1946. He was a retiree of the former Dauphin Deposit Bank and was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hummelstown, Hummelstown V.F.W. #1687 and a 63 year member of Hummelstown American Legion #265. Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Bolton Campbell; son, William E., and his wife Donna (Reitz) Campbell of Mechanicsburg; daughter, Sue Ann, and her husband Jon Gardner of Hummelstown; three grandsons, Michael Campbell and his wife Stacey, Matt Campbell and his fiancée Ashley and Marc Campbell. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward and three sisters, Lois, Alta, and Jean. Graveside services for family and friends will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Hummelstown Cemetery.
