"Hired in 1786 to survey the land between Jackson County and Indian territory. Represented Jackson County in the Georgia Legislature from 1807 - 1811 and in the State Senate from 1812 - 1818 and 1823 - 1935."

"Hugh was the first mayor of Benton, Polk County, TN, and was an Indian Agent there. He was part of a prominent family related to the Polk Knoxes."
