OBITUARY:

Sister Margaret Spreng, nee Faber, was born in Schillersdorf, Alsace, Germany [now France], February 14, 1819. She came to America in 1832, and in 1838 was joined in holy wedlock with Rev. Jacob Spreng, local preacher in the Ohio Conference. Sister S was soundly converted to God and became a member of the Evangelical Association in 1841. She knew the power of experimental religion; she often testified of having a living faith. Itinerant preachers were always accorded a hearty welcome in their home, and many a weary minister found rest and refreshment under their roof. She lived a faithful and exemplary Christian until the Lord said: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: enter thou into the joy of the Lord".

The departure of Sister Spreng, an honored mother of Israel, was serene and glorious. After she had finished her domestic labors of the day, almost without struggle, she sweetly fell asleep in Jesus, December 27th, 1890, aged 71 years, 10 months and 14 days. Three children preceded her to the spirit world, and ten remain with the loving father and faithful husband to mourn their loss: but their loss is her eternal gain. Three of her sons entered the Christian ministry. Isaac, who died about seven years ago, was for several years a successful minister in the United Brethren church; Otto and Enos M. are active ministers in the Ohio Conference of the Evangelical Association. Though she is no more among us, her influence still lives...
