Foster Dobbins was born May 8, 1838 near Gallatin, Tenn in Sumner County. He was educated in Cumberland University and engaged in teaching school in Tenn. and in Toronto, Can. In 1867 he married Margaret Almira Beard, seven children were born to this union, six survive. They are Arthur of New Mexico, Oliver B. of Champaign, Ill., Claude of Butler, Pa., Roy of Chicago, Nettie McDowell of Fremont, Iowa, Myrtle Heath of White Pigeon, Mich. His first wife died Oct. 24, 1881 in East Bend Twp. in Champaign County. He again married in 1887 Miss Maggie McKinney, who survives. His children Fannie and Vaughnie died as children and Verne who was with him at the time of his death. He went to Gibson City in 1899 and to Urbana in 1900 where his death occurred. Burial in Blackford Cemetery south of Elliott.
