At age thirty-one, he married Hanna Jonsson, who was born May 17, 1808, the daughter of Jons Jeppsson and Malene Andersdotter. Hanna died November 8, 1838.
On November 15, 1839. Hans then married Karna Nilson who was born January 19, 1813, the daughter of Neils Olsen and Hanna Ahosson.
They joined the LDS Church in 1864. Four years later, when Hans was sixty-two, he and Karna set sail for America. With them were their daughter, Karna (Caroline), and her infant son, Hans Anderson, who died during the voyage. They settled in Millville. Their two other living children later joined them.
In June 1874, Hans and Karna made the long trip to Salt Lake City and were sealed in the Endowment House by Wilford Woodruff.
Children of Hans and Karna are: Andrew (Hanna Nilson), Hanna (Ola Larson), Caroline (Johannes Anderson), Jans, Elna, Niels (Mary Nielson). Karna died November 30, 1881.
