Janet Waugh Tuttle, 80, passed away at Maine Medical Center in Portland, on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, surrounded by her family, following a sudden illness.
Janet was born on July 24, 1927, in Albion, the daughter of George and Marguerite (Drake) Waugh; the eldest of three children. Janet graduated from Besse High School with the class of 1945. Janet went on to attend nursing school at Augusta General Hospital School of Nursing where she obtained her registered nurse certification. She worked briefly at the Old Sisters Hospital, which is now known as Mount St. Josephs. She married her high school sweetheart, Harry Tuttle, on April 9, 1949.
Janet was a very warm, loving wife, mother, and friend. She took much delight in helping those around her, often placing their needs and wants before her own. She loved to travel and sight see. Among her favorites were her trips to the Scottish Highlands, to the Canadian Maritimes, a trip to Glacier National Park, and all trips that incorporated her loving family.
She enjoyed morning rides with her husband, Harry, stopping at the ever-alluring yard sale, having breakfast at the Early Bird in Oakland, and visiting with her many acquaintances. Janet was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting/trading books with her many friends. She loved music; The Statler Brothers were near the top of her list. Her bird watching provided her great enjoyment; the annual return of her beloved Cardinal brought her great pleasure.
Janet will be greatly missed and always remembered by her husband of 58 years, Harry; son Tony and his wife, Beth, of Albion; daughter Sally of Albion; son Jonathan of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and son Arthur and his wife, Terry, of Oakland. Janet will also be greatly missed by her four grandchildren, who she referred to as her "little lambs": Troy of Augusta, Tracy Tuttle of Albion, and Benjamin and Lucas Tuttle of Oakland.
Janet was predeceased by her parents, George and Marguerite (Drake) Waugh; brother George Waugh Jr. "Hotdog"; and son Jeffery Tuttle.
Surviving relatives include: sister Carlene and husband Richard Viekman of Solon; sisters-in-law Maureen Tuttle and Greta Waugh, both of Albion; as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Albion Library, Main Street, Albion, Maine.
Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 pm Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007 at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, Maine. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Friday, Nov. 2, 2007 at Albion Christian Church.
