George Thomazin Rites Held Saturday
George Thomazin 83, third child of ten in the family of George and Maria
Burrows Thomazin was born Dec 13, 1877 in Burrows Township, Platte County,
Nebraska and passed away at his home in St. Edward after a lingering
illness, common to the aged, Aug. 2, 1961 at 11:30 A. M. Mr. Thomazin was
a born farmer and loved the land he tilled. After his marriage to Miss Alma
Welin, March 22, 1905, at the home of her parents in Genoa, they came to the
Grandma Thomazin farm in district 59, Woodville Township. On March 1, 1907
they moved to the Grandfather Welin farm where their only child, Leonard,
was born that year.
March 1, 1912 they moved to their own land in district 68 and remained there
until 1923 when they moved to St. Edward and resided there while their son,
Leonard, attended High School. In 1928 they returned to their farm and
remained until they came to their present home in 1945. Mr. Thomazin was a
member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge. He served as treasurer in district 68
for many years, was also a member of Woodville Township Board. He was a
member of the St. Edward Board of Education from 1924-1928. He was
treasurer of the West Hill Baptist Church over a long period of time.
He loved children and they loved him. He was a good neighbor to all and was
held in high esteem by all with whom he came in contact. He was a civic
leader and contributed generously to all constructive measures to better the
community in which he lived.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomazin celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in March
of 1955.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James, Loup City,
Nebraska, two infant brothers, William and John Watson; two sisters, Mrs.
Mary Vollmar, Fairview, Illinois and the infant sister, Edith.
