Mrs. Laverne Johnson Dicks passed away on July 9, 2009, at her residence. Laverne was born on April 17, 1930 to Anna Gibbs Johnson and William Riley Johnson in Mount Vernon, Georgia. Her family moved to Florida when she was at a young age.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years: Denver F. Dicks; two daughters: Lane Dicks Dekle (George R. "Bob") of Lake City, FL, and Joan Dicks Taylor (Bennie) of Live Oak, FL; one brother: George Johnson (Ann) of Macclenny, FL; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her father William Riley Johnson, her mother Anna Gibbs Johnson Harvey, stepfather Percy Harvey, sister Margaret Johnson Norman, brother William Glen Johnson, step-sisters Zelma Harvey Peacock and Geanice Harvey Johns.

Mrs. Dicks lived her young life in Macclenny, Florida, and most of her adult life in Lake City after moving from Dunnellon, FL, in 1962. She retired from the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission after eighteen years of service. She was a Charter member of the Orchard Community Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, gardening, and especially art. She delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 2 P.M. in Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Eddie Blalock officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery, Macclenny, FL. Visitation will be on Friday, July 10, 2009, from 5 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S.
