George Henry 'Harry' Jessop was born in Millville, the son of Richard Jessop and Jeanette Larona Shaffer. He grew up on his father's farm, helping to take care of the dairy farm and the honey business; and he attended school in the old frame school where Martin Woolf was his teacher.

On April 16, 1902, he married Francis Hannah Stephens, the daughter of Henry Nephi Stephens and Caroline Evans. She was born September 20, 1884, in Hyrum, Utah.

The Jessops lived for a few years in Salt Lake City where Harry worked on the railroad and Francis ran a boarding house. They spent the remainder of their married life in Millville, and Harry farmed for a living.

They were the parents of one daughter, Phyllis (Morgan Jenson).
