James William "Jim" Abston was born James William "Jimmy" Jenkins on 06 Oct 1868 in Butler, Choctaw County, Alabama to Tom Jenkins and Emma (Doggett) Jenkins. He was adopted by John Jackson Abston and Mary Jane (Jenkins) Abston along with his sister, Ella Fair "Ellen" Jenkins. He and another adopted sister, Emma Shirley, eventually took the last name of Abston. Ella Fair would keep her name of Jenkins. Jim married Octavia Todd.
