John Jackson Abston, Sr. was born on 19 Apr 1834 in Bibb County, Alabama to Elijah Abston and Nancy (Prewitt) Abston and died on 24 Feb 1889 in Choctaw County, Alabama. He was 54 years old. He served the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. He was a prisoner of war at one time during the war.
John married Mary Jane Jenkins. John and Mary had six children and two adopted children: Mary; Mahala Jane “Mahallie”; Martha Ann “Mattie”; William; Allen; Elijah Luther “Elige”; James William "Jimmy" Jenkins-Abston; and Emma Shirley-Abston.
At the time of his death, John was preceded in death by his parents. He was survived by his wife; four sons; four daughters; eight grandchildren; and one known sister.
