Civil War Union soldier. Served as a Private in the 100th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers Infantry (known as the Round Head Regiment), Company D. He enrolled December 16, 1861 at Darlington, Pa., at age 25. He mustered in with his brother William Franklin Vankirk at Harrisburg, Pa., on December 28, 1861. He mustered out, December 28, 1864, at the expiration of his term. He was the son of William Vankirk and Barbara A. Musser and the husband of Agnes. He worked as a carpenter.
