Harold L. Grant, 73, of Pascagoula died April 19,
2005 of Leukemia. He was preceded in death by his
father, Harold L. Grant, Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Irma Grant, of
Pascagoula; sister, Glenda Grant, Winston Salem,
NC; sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Elwood
Lennep, Moss Point; He leaves five children,
Timothy Grant, Smyrna, Ga.; Joanna Grant,
Rochester, NY; Saralyn, David, and Daniel Grant,
of Duluth, Ga.; his ex-wife and mother of his
children, Evelyn Grant-Duncan, Duluth, Ga.
He is also survived by a host of nieces in
Mississippi and North Carolina.
Harold Grant was educated at Southern Mississippi,
where he received a Bachelor of Arts in history.
He did graduate work at the University of Mississippi
(Old Miss) and at Louisiana State University.
He studied with noted southern historian,
T. Harry Williams.
He taught history at the Citadel in Charleston,
SC and Shorter College in Rome, Ga. He also worked
for Westinghouse in Athens, Ga. His last job was as a
librarian at the Jackson County Public Li-brary,
where he was popular with his colleagues and considered
an authority on local genealogy.
He was an impassioned student of Southern history
and culture and a poplar lecturer and raconteur
specializing in tales of Civil War history.
He was noted talker in all walks of life, and
will be remembered by those who knew him for his zeal,
vitality, and passionate interest in the sharing of
thoughts and ideas.
Visitation will be Friday, April 22, 2005,
6:00-9:00pm, at O'Bryant-O'Keefe
Funeral Home, Pascagoula, Miss.
Funeral Service will be Saturday,
April 23, 2005, 2:00pm, at O'Bryant-O'Keefe
Funeral Home in Pascagoula with Dr. Rex Yancey
officiating.
Pallbearers will be John Wilkinson, Wayne
Wilkinson, Bob Krebs, Eugene Hamilton, Derek
Clark, and Terri Dickson.
Interment will follow at Griffin Cemetery,
Moss Point, Miss.
