Worked for the Capola Mountain Mines, Star Tannery, VA where he was severely injured and disable/crippled by a belt that broke lose and snapped him across the legs. After somewhat of a recovery he had to walk with the aid of a cane and could no longer work. This was a terrible hit to this large family during the depression.
Always wore coveralls and a flannel shirt. Was always chewing tobacco he kept in his top pouch.
