Newspaper article. 12-8-1940. Pair Married 59 Years Note Occasion. Fielding.

Sunday will mark 59 years of married life for Mr. and Mrs. Jed L. Earl of Fielding, early Bear River valley pioneers. In observance of the event the couple will hold open house at their home from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., for friends and relatives.

Both are 83 years old, and were born in Farmington. They were married December 8, 1881, in the L.D.S. endowment house at Salt Lake City.

The next year following their marriage they moved to the Bear River valley, where Mr. Earl had taken up a homestead where they resided for six years. While there he served as justice of o the peace, was the area's first road supervisor and chairman of the first school board.

The couple then moved to Collinston, in 1892, where they operated a general merchandise store until 1902, when they moved to Parker, Idaho, where they were active civic and L.D.S. church workers. While at Parker Mr. Earl established another mercantile business, later moving to Rexburg where he helped to organize the Fremont Implement business which he managed. They later moved to St. Anthony, Idaho, and while there Mr. Earl served for two years as assessor of Fremont county.

The couple returned to the Bear River valley in 1929, settling at Fielding where they have resided since. They have four sons and daughters, 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
