Mrs. Newman died Saturday near Elvaston Funeral of Lifelong County Resident Was Held Tuesday
Elvaston, Ill Mrs. Mary Jane Newman, 74 native and lifelong resident of Hancock county, died Saturday evening at her home near here and her funeral was held at the Baptist Church in Elvaston, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock in charge of Rev, A. C. Lillie of Edenburg, Ill, a former pastor, assisted by the Rev. J.H. Hoy. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cutler, sang "God Will Take Care Of You", "The Great Physician" and "I Will Guide Thee With Mine Eye." Pallbearers were J. A. and Ethyal Andrews, Edgar and Everett Whitaker, B.L Hughett and Kenneth Kinman, all nephews of the deceased. Burial was in Moss Ridge Cemetery by the side of her husband. Mrs. Newman was born Jan 15 1865 near West Point, the daughter of John and Martha McCain Andrews and married February 23, 1893 to James H. Newman at Carthage. They went to housekeeping near Denver and became parents of three daughters, Miss Hazel Newman, of Carthage, Mrs. Elsie Ebert of Fountain Green and Mrs. Goldie Smart of Elvaston. Three grandchildren, Mrs Alice Cain of Colmar, Russell Smart and Wilbur Ebert, one sister, Mrs. Martha Whitaker of Maywood, Mo. and several nieces and nephews also survive. She preceded by her parents, three brothers, John, Leslie and William and one sister, Mrs. Anna Biery.
