In 1879, John Krell and John Arnold bought the Henry Bach and Severin Teufel Brewery in Hazleton, which had been founded in 1859. The partners owned and operated the John Arnold and John Krell Brewery from 1879 until John Krell's death in 1893. The brewery was sold to the Pennsylvania Central Brewing Company in October 1897.
