Obituary submitted by Kimberly Hunt. Obit: Jacob Geo. J. Shoemaker, a well known farmer of Longswamp and Rockland Townships, Berks county, having suffered from pneumonia and blood poisoning unexpectedly passed away on Saturday night,at 8:20,May 9, aged 78 years,10 months and 13 days. The deceased was a son of Absalom Shoemaker and Maria, nee Ziegler, and was born June 26, 1835, in Longswamp township, Berks County. He was joined in marriage on January 25, 1863, by Rev. B.E. Kramlich to Miss Leanda Moyer, who preceeded him in death 24 years ago. Their four children all survive, as follows: William, of Kernsville, Lehigh county; Ratus, of Reading; Hannah, wife of Charles Brensinger, with whom the father had made his home, near Huff's Church in Hereford township, and Sarah, widow of Charles Sterner, of Lyon. He is also survivd by 21 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. His death was unexpected, for he was usually quite well for his age, and had been present at the Easter communion services. Benjamin Shoemaker, of Topton, is a brother. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 14, beginning at the house of his son-in-law, Charles Brensinger, at 10 a.m., near Huff's church, where further services will be held and interment made.
