Enlisted at age 22, from Long Island, NY on 28 Jun 1861. On the same day he mustered into Co. G; 42nd Infantry Regiment; New York Volunteers as a Private. A day later he transferred from Co. G to Co. B and would, in time, be promoted to Corporal and then Sergeant. He was killed in the Battle of Antietam 17 Sep 1862.
His widow, Caroline Allen, applied for a widow's pension, application number 3,462.
