Jesse Stewart's grandfather, Robert, resided in Greenwich Township and died about 1800, leaving two sons, Thomas and Robert, and daughters, Margaret, wife of Thomas Kennedy, and Mary, wife of William Kennedy.
According to the Michael Shoemaker book, Robert was listed as being born in Bucks County to Charles Stewart, his birth date is listed as Jan. 9, 1732, (although no source is given for this date). The family came to Greenwich Township, which was then in Sussex County, as Warren County was not incorporated until 1824 and sectioned off from Sussex County.
