US Congressman. Born in Westfield, Massachusetts, he graduated from Harvard University in 1813, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1819 and opened his law practice in Bangor, Maine, in 1823. In 1833, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1837. After his term, he served as US Marshal for the District of Maine, (1838-41), US Attorney for the District of Maine, (1843-45) and as United States consul at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, (1845-49). He died at age 83 in Ridge, New York.
