Pioneer Santa Maria Woman Taken by Death At Watsonville Home
Death came shortly after noon, Friday, to Mrs. Belle Adam Sheehy, beloved pioneer mother of Watsonville. She died at the family home, 201 Jefferson street. Her passing was a great shock to her family and a large circle of friends throughout the central coast counties.
Mrs. Sheehy was born in Watsonville 67 years ago and she had spent most of her early life in Santa Maria, returning to Watsonville about 32 years ago, after her marriage to the late Patrick Sheehy.
She was a faithful member St. Patrick's church, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Altar society. She was a loyal friend, a generous neighbor and one who took a lively interest in everything for the betterment of the community.
There is left to mourn her passing two sons, Kenneth Sherry of New York City and William R. Sheehy of Watsonville;
a daughter, Miss Isabel Shelly of Watsonville;
three sisters, Miss Mary C. Adam, Mrs. Isaac Porter, Mrs. Leo Preisker, all of Santa Maria;
and three brothers, William Adam and Thomas Adam of Santa Maria and Carl Adam of San Jose.
Five grandchildren also survive; Charles, Patricia and Barbara Martinelli of Watsonville and Robert and Terrence Sheehy of New York City.
The body will lie in state at the family. Home until Monday morning at 9:15, when it will be taken to St. Patrick's church for a solemn high mass at 9:30. Burial will be in Valley cemetery, Watsonville.
