Sgt. John Simon Cota was the son of Francis R. and Elizabeth Cota. Martha (Thomas) Cota was his 1st wife. Martha died May 11, 1860. Lucina (Hazen) Cota Shaw was his 2nd wife. They were married February 2, 1862. Lucina died October 10, 1903. John served during the Civil War - Co H 106th NY Vol Inf. He was wounded September 19, 1864 and died of his wounds shortly thereafter.
