Hazel, 86 of Roanoke passed away on Tuesday, at Lutheran Hospital. She was a 1942 graduate of Roanoke High School. She was a member of Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church where she played piano for services every Sunday for many years. She was a homemaker and worked part-time for many years at the Roanoke Drug Store.

She was the daughter of Melvin and Edna (Rupert) Hoover.

She was united in marriage to Rex A. Simon on November 25, 1943 in Andrews, Indiana.

Survivors include a daughter: Mrs. Karen (James) Hull of O'Fallon, MO; a brother: Eugene E. Hoover of Centreville, VA; a son-in-law: David Hopper of Bonita Springs, FL; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Rex A. Simon on August 16, 1991; a daughter: Carmen D. Hopper on September 19, 2000 and a brother: Clarence Hoover on March 1, 2008.

Services were held on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church, with Pastor Marvin Grooms officiating.

Interment will be at the Pleasant Chapel Cemetery.

Memorials are to Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church.
