She was born September 30, 1901 in Wellston, Ohio. Mrs. Shumate was a member of the First United Penticostal Church.
Surviving are two sons, Bob Shumate of Zanesville and Glen Shumate of New Philadelphia; five grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceeded in death by her parents Solomon and Rachel Sowards, husband Elijah W. Shumate, two daughters, Louise Gay and Sadie Waltz; and several brothers and sisters.
Calling hours will be from 7 pm to 9 pm Thursday May 19, at DeLong and Baker Funeral Home, 56 S. Fifth St., and one hour prior to services which will be at 11 am Friday, May 20, at the funeral home with Elder Frank McDonald officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
