Lester Lavern Grayson of Rolla, Missouri passed away on September 01, 2020 in Dixon, Missouri at the age of 92. Lester was born in Newburg, Missouri on March 01, 1928 to the late Dewey and Myrtle (Helms) Grayson.
Lester was raised in Newburg and lived most of his life in Phelps County, Missouri; he was a graduate of the Newburg High School class of 1945. After high school he joined the United States Army where he proudly served in World War II. After the service Lester started work and later retired from the USGS in the water resource division. On June 29, 1951 Lester married the love of his life, Carole Bartles; this union was blessed with nine children. Lester worked at the Rolla Sale Barn Horse Auction for over thirty years. He enjoyed fishing, trapping and spending time outdoors. His favorite past time was watching his grandson play baseball. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Lester is survived by his children, Kenneth Grayson of Newburg, Missouri, Christine Gulley of Rolla, Missouri, Elizabeth Dayton of Waynesville, Missouri, Kathy (Tim) Greenhalgh of Illinois, Willie (Rhonda) Grayson of Rolla, Missouri, David Grayson of Booneville, Missouri, Joe (Debbie) Grayson of Rolla, Missouri, Matt (Lucy) Grayson of Rolla, Missouri and Paul (Melissa) Grayson of Dixon, Missouri; brother, John Grayson of Rolla, Missouri; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Lester was preceded in death by siblings, Lloyd, Paul, Betty, P.E., Erma and Jerrell Grayson.
Funeral services for Lester Grayson will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, September 09, 2020 at the Rolla Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary, Rolla, Missouri with Mike Mounce officiating. Interment will be in Rhea Cemetery, Rolla, Missouri. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 08, 2020 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM. Memorials are suggested to the St. James Veterans Home. Cards are available at all James and Gahr locations
