Jewell Pearl Tyra married Thomas Cecil Hogan on 12 February 1921 at the parsonage of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Eliasville, Texas. The two met while he was working in the oil field near Graham, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Hogan moved to Crane, Texas in 1935 and lived there except for 18 months when they were in business in Rankin.

Mrs. Hogan was raised on a ranch near the Murray Community in Young County, Texas. They were members of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Hogan's hobby was collecting carnival glass. She was very involved in civic affairs. A charter member of the Crane Study Club, she worked in school organizations such as Band Boosters Club. The Crane Volunteer Fire Department named Mrs. Hogan mother of the department.
