In 1840, Israel moved his family (including two slaves) from Kentucky to Clay County, Missouri. They resettled in Platte County, Missouri, in 1842.
In 1846, he patented 320 acres, an area later known as "Linkville." The house on that property was built in 1847.
Israel was listed on the 1860 Slave Schedule as a slave owner. He held five slaves:
50-year-old black man
23-year-old black woman
20-year-old black man
4-year-old black male
2-year-old mulatto male
