Mary G. Taylor was born on Dec. 4, 1793, to Courtland Taylor and his wife Isabellah (last name unknown; possibly "Gaunt").
She completed a large, beautiful, and detailed cross-stitch sampler at the Chesterfield School in 1812.
After finishing school, she taught fine needlework at several different schools. Some samplers have been found, listing Mary G. Taylor as the teacher.
She married Samuel Allen on October 6, 1831, and they had 4 daughters, only one of whom lived to adulthood - Mary Anna Allen.
Mary died on June 1, 1864, in Haddonfield, and was buried in Colestown Cemetery.
Many thanks to Gail Kreyns for taking and posting the beautiful photo of Mary's stone!
