Andrew was a young boy in KY, when his father, James Houston Short, returned home from the Civil War to find his home and buildings, cattle and even fences were gone. He had a plantation of 350 acres. One would suppose it discouraged him so he moved to on to AR. Andrew met and married Martha Jane Sheffield in AR and then all the family moved on to OK where they had their family. He was always on the go and in 1909 off to CO and eventually in 1920,moving to Mesilla across from his daughter Omie and Son in-law Gus Peterson where he stayed until his death in 1936
He was a staunch Republican and would go to Dickerson Store and hold heated discussions with the town people. He was a hard person to be around because he was pretty grumpy all the time.
